SHOUTOUTS FROM MR. TERRY!!!
Thank you to all the parents who generously volunteer their time to support our school community! Whether you're passing out flyers or serving on a committee, your contributions are truly appreciated. SCHOOL HOLIDAY: REMEMBERING MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
As we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we honor his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and nonviolence. His vision of a world where character triumphs over prejudice continues to inspire us to confront inequities and build bridges of understanding in our communities. In these challenging times, his legacy reminds us that collective action and hope can drive meaningful change.
COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL SESSION
On Friday, January 17th, we had our first Coffee with the Principal session of the semester. The focus was on Immigration and our guest speaker, Ms. Graciela Arreola-Munoz, did an amazing job sharing essential information with those who attended. 8th GRADE PARENT MEETING
Our annual 8th Grade Parent meeting took place on Thursday, January 16th in the Old Cafeteria. Those who were able to attend heard about 8th Grade Activities, upcoming dates, etc. You also may access the presentation by scrolling down to the ATTACHED FILES on this page.
COMBATING HATE SPEECH
Several of our students at our school site will participate in an assembly facilitated on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 by the Howard Group on Combating Hate Speech through the Equity Department. All schools in our district will have this assembly and the goal is to empower our kids with the tools they need to continue to live up to our school PBIS Promise of being Respectful, Responsible and Safe. Parents of students scheduled to participate should have received a notification from Mr. Brisbon our SEL Lead Teacher.

8TH GRADE PARENT MEETING
We will have an 8th Grade Parent Meeting on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 5pm in the Old Cafeteria. During that session our team will review Promotion Requirements, 8th Grade Activities and much more. Special Note: This date and time may change due to the recent fires.
COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL SESSION
Our first Coffee with the Principal meeting of the new semester will take place on Friday, January 17th @ 9am in the Parent Center. We will have a guest speaker who will present on Immigration. In addition, upcoming events and highlights will be reviewed. Hope to see you there. Special Note: This date and time may change due to recent fires.
UNIT #3 BENCHMARK ASSESSMENTS, JANUARY 27-31
The third set of benchmark assessments for English and Algebra I will take place during the Week of January 27th! These assessments help prepare our students for State Testing in May. Please take a moment to check-in with your student and ask them how they are preparing for their Unit 3 Benchmarks. MYPATH ASSESSMENTS
Please be aware that our students will be taking MyPath Assessments during the month of January. These assessments will occur in both their English and Math classes. It is important that our students do their best on these assessments because they will give our staff an indication of their academic growth since the beginning of this school year. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s English or Math teacher.

DRESS CODE

AFTER SCHOOL SAFETY
In order to support a safe school community for everyone, please make sure your student(s) goes directly home or to an agreed safe location after school. We ask that your student(s) do not loiter in the park or any other areas in the city.

UNIT #2 COMMON ASSESSMENT DATA
Our students recently took the Unit #2 Common Assessments for Algebra I and English Language Arts. The percentages below represent students who met or exceeded the standard during the assessment. Here's how we did compared to last year:
- Algebra I
- 2023-24: 2%
- 2024-25: 29%
- English Language Arts
- ELA 7: 2023-24 - 34%; 2024-25 - 35%
- ELA 8: 2023-24 - 24%; 2024-25 - 31%
- Mathematics 7 and 8
- Math 7: 2023-24 - 22%; 2024-25 - 30%
- Math 8: 2023-24 - 16%; 2024-25 - 14%
As you can see, our students have shown improvement in performance compared to last year. This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our parents, students and teacher teams. Nice job!!! 🙌
METRO BUS PASSES
We received Metro Bus Passes for all students. They were distributed during PE classes last semester. If your student did not receive one, please reach out to Ms. Olga Quirarte in the Counseling Office.
