More than 300 Lynwood Unified teachers and administrators gathered for the District’s 2024 Summer Institute – themed “Back to the Basics – Rigor, Readiness, Relevance!” – as the annual professional development training helped usher in the 2024-25 school year, which begins Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Held Aug. 5-7 at Firebaugh High School, the three-day event focused on the importance of mastering fundamental teaching and learning elements that are crucial for student success while incorporating lessons on equity, access and justice for all students.
The 2024 Summer Institute kicked off with three Class of 2024 graduates addressing the teachers, thanking them for their tremendous impact on students and schools, and providing inspiration for the new year.
Keynote speakers included Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D., Association of California School Administrators Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Professional Learning Tracie Noriega, Ed.D., and inspirational speaker and educational leader Marlon Styles.
Featured workshops touched on Readiness – meeting students where they are by tailoring instruction – Rigor – encouraging critical thinking – and Relevance – bolstering student engagement, building relationships, valuing diversity and supporting students. Topics included improving student performance, understanding mental health, promoting cultural competence and developing strategies for staff wellness.
The Summer Institute underscores Lynwood Unified's dedication to professional development, ensuring educators are well-prepared to support student success in the upcoming school year.
