Lynwood Unified School District hosted an Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Cultural Fair at Firebaugh High School on May 28, bringing together the District students and families in a vibrant celebration of AAPI Heritage Month and the rich, diverse cultures within the AAPI community.
The fair featured several activities showcasing the achievements and contributions of AAPI cultures, including food and sweet treats, as well as engaging arts and crafts activities that highlighted traditional artistic expressions, such as flower leis. Additionally, students were able to choose from over 200 free books and journal-writing activities, inspiring them to embrace literature.
The event buzzed with energy as traditional performers from Wushu Shaolin Entertainment delivered mesmerizing Lion Dance and martial arts demonstrations. Students engaged in traditional hula lessons and other guests eagerly participated in a crash course on haka, a traditional Māori dance.
Guests were then treated to a special performance by the Korean Classical Music and Dance Company members, who showcased their talents through colorful social and ceremonial fan dances, offering a vibrant glimpse into Korean culture.
Resource booths provided parents with a wealth of information on college scholarship opportunities, leadership and involvement tools and other valuable services offered by the District’s parent and family engagement specialists.
The fair was coordinated by the District’s Equity, Access, and Instructional Services Department as part of the District’s ongoing efforts to recognize the significant cultural contributions of diverse communities and increase opportunities and resources to support students in their educational journeys at Lynwood Unified.
