VIRTUAL COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL

On Friday, May 3rd, we will have our monthly Coffee with the Principal session.  This will be a virtual session that will focus on discussing SBAC testing with guest speakers from the Equity Department.  In addition, Mr. Watson is scheduled to discuss the Finance Elective we added this year. 


ARTS FESTIVAL 

A huge shout out goes to our amazing Band students who performed during our district’s Annual Arts Festival this past Saturday!  Our students, led by Mr. Alba, represented our school with so much pride.  Also, we are grateful to our staff who worked at our Arts Booth, as well.  Their support is truly appreciated!  They did an excellent job showcasing several of our electives.  


SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

We finished our final Book Fair last week.  Several of our students had the opportunity to visit the fair in the Old Cafeteria.  Thank you to our Library Media Assistant, Ms. Pastran who facilitated this weeklong event, and our Parent Volunteers.  If you are a parent, and are interested in volunteering at our school site, please contact Ms. Olga Quirarte at 310-603-1447 during school hours or stop by the Counseling Office for more information.


JR GRAD BASH

Several of our 8th graders will be going to Universal Studios for our annual Jr. Grade Bash event.  Students are scheduled to leave campus by 4pm and be back on campus around 12am the following morning.  If you have additional questions, please contact our Activities Director, Ms. Bode at 310-603-1447 during school hours.  

 

RUN/WALK FOR EDUCATION

STUDENT CHECK-IN ASSEMBLIES

We will be having our Student Check-In assembly for the months of April & May on Thursday, May 2, 2024.  These sessions will take place during every PE class on this day.  Click this link to access past presentations.  https://bit.ly/ckINAssmb202324 


SBAC TESTING UPDATE

Students begin taking the annual SBAC testing starting May 15th.  Please be aware that students will be released at 12:45pm on Thursday, May 16th and Tuesday, May 21st.  Take a moment to scroll down to the attached files to review the testing schedule, our Parent Letter and steps on how your student can take practice tests to better prepare for these assessments.  If you have additional questions, please contact Ms. Bojorquez at 310-603-1447 during school hours.


TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

Teacher Appreciation Week takes place during the week of May 6th.  If you have an opportunity, please reach out to your student’s teachers to let them know how much you appreciate their hard work.


AFTER SCHOOL DISMISSAL

In order to support a safe learning environment for everyone, please make sure your student(s) goes directly home or to an agreed safe location after school.  We ask that your student(s) do not loiter in the park or any other areas in the city.  


SUMMER BRIDGE FOR INCOMING 9TH GRADERS

Starting on June 24th and ending on July 17th, incoming 9th graders will have the opportunity to sign up for Summer Bridge in order to get ready for High School.  Students who attend Summer Bridge will experience multiple field trips and learn strategies to be successful at the high school level.  You may sign your student up by using the following link:  https://forms.gle/PJk4pVWTXVnoFCnx6.  SPACE IS LIMITED, SO SIGN UP NOW!!!  Scroll down to the attached files to view a flyer with more details.

DRESS CODE FOR SCHOOL SAFETY

We need everyone’s assistance to ensure our students are arriving at school in the proper dress code in order to promote a safe campus for the entire HMS School Community.  Students who do not comply will receive laundered loaners or parents will be contacted.  Click this link for more details:  HMS DRESS CODE


UPDATED 8TH GRADE PROMOTION MATRIX

24/7 FREE TUTORING

The first semester report cards have been mailed out.  If your student received a D or F in a class make sure they take advantage of our FREE, Chat-Based Online Tutoring through PAPER.  This service is available 24/7.  Click this link for more information:  Paper Tutoring.


8TH GRADE PARENT MEETING FOLLOW-UP

During our 8th Grade Parent meetings on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, several parents asked about how their student(s) could potentially attend Firebaugh High School for the 2024-25 school year.  In order to do so, please click on the following link: Intradistrict Permit.  You will find the flyer with more information below.
