COVID 19 Test Kits

On Friday, January 14th, you or your child received a COVID-19 At-Home test kit, provided by the State of California.  These kits have been distributed to you to use to ensure our community and schools staff as safe as possible.  Please read for more important details:
  • Each kit includes two tests.
  • To ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students, these tests are for LUSD students only.  Other family members should not use them.
  • We are asking that every student use one of these tests on Monday, January 17, 2022.  If the test is positive, please have your child quarantined immediately, notify your child's school, and contact your child's primary health physician.
  • You may keep the other test in the kit for later if your child develops COVID-like symptoms (fever, cough, diarrhea, fatigue, muscle aches) and you would like to test at that time to help determine if the symptoms are from COVID-19.  You many also wish to test your child later if they are a close contact to someone who has COVID-19.
  • Instructions for giving the test is attached or you my go to our Instagram page @hosler_lions to access the QR code from the posting in the story.
  • IMPORTANT:  If your child tests positive:  Stay home from school and contact your doctor, as well as you school right away.
If you have any questions about the results of your test, you should contact your doctor.

Thank you for helping our community stay safe!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the at-home-return-to-school school test?  The Lynwood Unified School District is providing students with the iHealth COVID-19 Antigen rapid test.  Participants gently swab the inside of each nostril (just the first 1/2 inch) themselves with a cotton test swab.  Then the swab is inserted into a test card and results are ready within approximately 15 minutes.

Who administers the tests?  Participants will self administer this test or family members can administer this test on younger children.

Cost?  There is NO cost.  We are able to offer free tests provided by the California Department of Public Health.

Results?  The test results are ready within 15-20 minutes and can be easily read on the test kit.

Will this be uncomfortable on students?  No.  Students as young as kindergarten-age are able to swab their own noses.  The swab only needs to be inserted as far as the cotton tip (less than 1/2 an inch).  This is not an invasive swab.

What if a student is vaccinated?  Do they need to be tested?  Yes.  Evidence indicates that fully vaccinated individuals can both contract and spread COVID-19.  With the significant increase in COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant, the recommendation is that both individuals who have been vaccinated and those who have not yet been fully vaccinated continue to test for COVID-19.
