HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

On behalf of the HMS School Community, we want to wish all of our amazing mothers a Happy Mother’s Day.  Your contributions to our school cannot be quantified.  Please know that you are appreciated!

 

ASIAN / PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

May is Asian / Pacific American Heritage Month.  The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success.

 

PARENT TRAININGS

Summer Registration for the 2024-25 school year will be here before you know it and the process will be different this time.  Please be aware that all registration will be DIGITAL ONLY!  Because of this our staff will be holding trainings on how to use the Parent Portal in Aeries and setting up an email.  Scroll down to the Upcoming Events for dates, times and the location.  Also, if you are a parent who would like to help train other parents, please touch base with Ms. Olga Quirarte in the Counseling Office.   You may stop by or call her at 310-603-1447.  

 

YEARBOOKS ARE ON SALE!!!

JUNIOR PROM

Our school’s annual Junior Prom will take place on Friday, May 31st at 5-9pm at Bateman Hall.  Tickets are still on sale at the student store.  Please contact Ms. Bode or Ms. Marquez @ 310-603-1447 if you have additional questions.

STUDENT CHECK-IN ASSEMBLIES

Mr. Terry facilitated the most recent Student Check-In Assembly on Thursday, May 2, 2024. The main focus areas of these meetings were urging students to embrace the PBIS Promise of Being Respectful, Responsible and Safe at all times and our Active Shooter Safety Drill scheduled to take place on May 9th, as well as State Testing starting on May 15th  These sessions will take place during every PE class on this day.  Click this link to access past presentations.  https://bit.ly/ckINAssmb202324 

 

AFTER SCHOOL DISMISSAL

In order to support a safe learning environment for everyone, please make sure your student(s) goes directly home or to an agreed safe location after school.  We ask that your student(s) do not loiter in the park or any other areas in the city.  

 

SUMMER BRIDGE FOR INCOMING 9TH GRADERS

Starting on June 24th and ending on July 17th, incoming 9th graders will have the opportunity to sign up for Summer Bridge in order to get ready for High School.  Students who attend Summer Bridge will experience multiple field trips and learn strategies to be successful at the high school level.  You may sign your student up by using the following link:  https://forms.gle/PJk4pVWTXVnoFCnx6.  SPACE IS LIMITED, SO SIGN UP NOW!!!  Scroll down to the attached files to view a flyer with more details.

 

ACADEMIC INTERVENTION

DRESS CODE FOR SCHOOL SAFETY

We need everyone’s assistance to ensure our students are arriving at school in the proper dress code in order to promote a safe campus for the entire HMS School Community.  Students who do not comply will receive laundered loaners or parents will be contacted.  Click this link for more details:  HMS DRESS CODE

 

UPDATED 8TH GRADE PROMOTION MATRIX

24/7 FREE TUTORING

The first semester report cards have been mailed out.  If your student received a D or F in a class make sure they take advantage of our FREE, Chat-Based Online Tutoring through PAPER.  This service is available 24/7.  Click this link for more information:  Paper Tutoring.

 

8TH GRADE PARENT MEETING FOLLOW-UP

During our 8th Grade Parent meetings on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, several parents asked about how their student(s) could potentially attend Firebaugh High School for the 2024-25 school year.  In order to do so, please click on the following link: Intradistrict Permit.  You will find the flyer with more information below.
