September at Hosler: A Month of Partnership and Progress
As we close the first full month of the school year, I want to sincerely thank our families for their continued support and partnership. Your engagement has helped strengthen our school community and advance our shared commitment to developing responsible, independent, and critical thinkers who can thrive in a culturally diverse and technologically advanced society.
A huge THANK YOU goes to our Hosler families who attended our Back-to-School Night, Resource Fair, and Title I Meeting. We are grateful that so many families took the time to meet our staff, learn about available resources, and engage with our school community.
Kudos also go to the students and staff who represented Hosler at the Lynwood Library Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony. We are especially proud of Hosler student Jennifer Estrada, who was featured by LAist as part of its coverage of the event. Click here to read the article.
Throughout September, families also participated in our Community School Advisory Council, School Site Council, ELAC, and Coffee with the Principal meetings. Coffee with the Principal attendees learned about the Movement student support program and heard from Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Carlos Zaragoza. Congratulations to the parents, students, and staff elected to this year’s School Site Council; their voices will help guide important decisions affecting our campus.
We also extend our appreciation to the Equity Department for hosting the districtwide Newcomer Event at Bateman Hall and the African American Parent Advisory Council’s annual BBQ Cookout at Hosler. These events provided valuable opportunities for students and families to build community and learn about available resources and support. We have also begun individual data conversations with several of our English Learners to help them prepare for the ELPAC assessment in March. Our goal is to support at least 30 students in successfully meeting their ELPAC performance goals.
Attendance remains a schoolwide priority. We are proud to recognize the 119 students who achieved perfect attendance during August—nearly 20% of Hosler’s student enrollment. Thanks to the efforts of our students and families, Hosler has achieved a 94.6% attendance rate as we continue working toward our annual goal of 95% or higher.
First-quarter progress grades were submitted on September 18. Families are encouraged to review their student’s academic progress and contact the appropriate teacher or counselor with any questions or concerns.
Finally, congratulations to ASB students Julissa Marquez and Ericka Arvizu for representing Hosler at the Board of Education meeting and doing an outstanding job leading the Flag Salute. We are proud of their leadership and grateful to every student, family, and staff member who contributed to a successful September. Together, we look forward to carrying this positive momentum into October and throughout the remainder of the school year.
