Our Namesake

At Hosler Middle School, we proudly honor the legacy of Fred W. Hosler, the first Superintendent of the newly formed Lynwood Unified School District.

Fred W. Hosler came to California from Oklahoma in 1950, bringing with him a vision of educational excellence and a strong commitment to the community. His tireless work ethic and unwavering dedication to the district shaped the foundation of our school system.

Fred worked long, demanding hours to ensure the District thrived, and during his time as Superintendent, his impact on the community was undeniable. Tragically, in 1952, Fred passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack in his home on Palm Street, just a few years after taking on the role of Superintendent.

To honor his vision, leadership, and lasting influence, the first junior high school in Lynwood, originally named "Century Junior High School," was renamed "Hosler Middle School." This name reflects our deep respect for Fred's contributions to our District and his lasting impact on the education of generations of students.

At Hosler Middle School, we continue to carry forward his commitment to excellence, community, and education.
