School Overview
A School to Watch, A Place to Thrive
Hosler Middle School is proud to be recognized as a California School to Watch by the California League of Educators (CLE) — a distinction that honors our commitment to academic excellence, a positive campus culture, and a learning environment where all students are empowered to succeed.
Over the past few years, Hosler has expanded elective offerings, strengthened social-emotional supports through programs like Crossroad and Movement, and made meaningful campus improvements to ensure students have every opportunity to thrive.
"It’s very exciting to be recognized for our work and culture here at Hosler Middle School. I’m honored to be a part of such an incredible and positive school culture that focuses on providing students with everything they need to achieve."
— Principal John Terry
Resilient, Responsive, and Student-Focused
Hosler demonstrated its resilience and commitment to students during the 2021–22 school year, when it welcomed more than 600 Lynwood Middle School students as part of a districtwide transition. Despite the challenges of merging two school communities, Hosler ensured a seamless experience for students and families — and emerged even stronger.
Since then, the school has continued to expand academic pathways, providing students with a rigorous curriculum and engaging electives such as:
-
Computer Science
-
College-Prep Courses
-
Robotics
-
Medicine
-
Art
Whole-Child Support and Inclusive Programs
Hosler is committed to serving all learners, including students with special needs. The Competent Learner Model (CLM) provides research-based strategies that equip educators to meet the needs of students eligible for special education, ensuring personalized support and inclusive learning opportunities.
Additionally, Hosler’s dedication to a positive school culture was recognized in 2022 with a Gold PBIS Award from the California PBIS Coalition, highlighting the school’s successful implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports that help students feel seen, supported, and motivated.
A Community of Excellence
Becoming a School to Watch involved a comprehensive selection process, including a written application and an on-campus visit where CLE representatives observed classes and spoke with students, families, and staff. Their visit affirmed what we know to be true: Hosler is a place where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
At Hosler Middle School, we’re not just preparing students for high school — we’re preparing them for life.
